Forget your three favorite pens and grab your mouse. I could not think of a better recommendation for what at first seemed to me to be a superfluous software program: Scapple is actually an illustrative database freed from the tyranny of cells and the limitations of sheets. And that allowed me to load up for book four. Literally, it was as if I had found Chekhov’s complete unfired armory in chapter after chapter. Here were the character sketches, the timelines, the locations, the conflicts, the inciting incidents, many of which I’d forgotten. While not exactly the Dead Sea Scrolls, scrolling up and down Blount’s “big, virtual piece of paper,” I found myself visiting and revisiting the thought processes I engaged in as I developed my alt-espionage series. What I saw when I reopened the program was the cumulative file I’d inadvertently developed over the years. There it was, inscribed on a roadmap written in Scapple: the real purpose for this soft-powered software for writers: c ontinuity. (No offense intended to drinkers of Bushmills.) So, when I invoked Scapple for the first time in a long while, the effect was like dropping back three fingers of Jameson, neat. Scapple happens to be one of those programs that will reopen where you last left off, assuming you did not close its window when you quit. Imagine a quirk turning into a revelation. The constant decisions and revisions which each moment I revised grew impossible, so I called on the cute-kitties meme for rescue. The change has been more fun than difficult, but finding the thread to bind my story arc through book four, while keeping each book a separate readable tale, has flummoxed me. The new book is narrated the third person. Until now, my series has been written in the first person. I write a series of novels, and I’ve been struggling with book four. There’s a deeper purpose to Scapple than I’ve seen advertised, and it looks something like this: Is that the rub? If mind mapping turns out to be a matter of deciding on key strokes and color schemes, why bother with software? It certainly doesn’t require a computer that can solve the orbit transfers and interplanetary trajectories of billion-dollar space probes to create thought bubbles. “Scapple is sort of … a big, virtual piece of paper.” Its brilliant developer, Keith Blount, says as much in a 2016 interview with the “Medium”: You can do the same thing the software does (faster) with a wide sheet of paper and your three favorite pens. The question drew some fire and defense, but it left the business of Scapple’s value in the de gustibus non est disputandum state.įive years after beta, Scapple remains pretty much idling in its latest release of version 1.3.1 out in November 2017. The explanation for the slow development of Scapple should be plain. The Literature and Latte forum got prickly over the software two years after its introduction in 2015: “Any hope of some kind of update? New features? Anything?” one user asked. For the sake of disclosure, when I first opened Scapple in 2014, I found it cute and annoying, like kitty memes.Īpparently, I was not alone. Scapple is mind mapping software from the beloved creators of Scrivener, Literature and Latte, released April 23, 2013. It would be Scapple, right? What’s a Scapple? And if you’ve been paying attention to the technical side of the word processing process, that software rake would be obvious to you. It’s the writerly heap of ideas I haul around that require a rake-like tool for story work. When I try envisioning them, I see a collection of gray laundry, or a wild lawn in need of a mower and rake. I’m asking the broader figurative question of what your thoughts look like.Īnswering for myself, I have no idea what my thoughts look like. What do your thoughts look like? No, no, no, not those big little lies trapped between your ears. US novelist and ALLi author member Jeff Shear shares his lightbulb moment of using a third way – mindmapping, using another Literature and Latte product, Scapple. There are many ways for indie authors to plan self-published books, both fiction and non-fiction – from the time-honored index cards spread out on the kitchen table to the high-tech equivalent using Literature and Latte's Scrivener digital corkboard. If so, please comment and I'll correct my post and credit you.Īlso, here is a link to the Google Sheets I fully created and used to follow my progression regarding the collectibles during both of my runs. I wrote this based on notes I made in February of this year, so one or two things may be false/incomplete. Those are all related to story mode (or their DLC's), so you'll need to find/earn them again.ĭLCs are unlocked at a certain point in the story, in both NG and NG+. Redemption, Deathgrip, Interdiction, Soul splitter, Voidwalker, Phasewalker, Reaper form, Maker's key, Mad Smith's Device You keep their bonuses, but they all respawn.Įtu-Goth relics are the less interesting ones, so you may want to skip them. They are discarded from you inventory, but they all respawn.Īs stated above, find and use them all before resetting. I would advise you to find them all, pillage the tombs, and do that again on the second run. The Book of the Dead, its page, its chapters, and its Death keys :.I would advise to find them all twice and keep them until you're level 30. You keep your current count, but they all respawn, whether found or not. It also starts unlocked in NG+, though I don't see the point of trying again before level 30. Whether you don't start or get it to level 75, you keep your progress. Hence, I advise you to find and use them all before resetting. You lose the Stonebites, but not the bonus they've given you. Your normal weapons, as well as level-based weapons that will keep leveling with you. You don't lose them, but you don't get a free "Respec" from Vulgrim either.
There was intrafamilial variability, but all families had at least 1 member with multiple cutaneous piloleiomyomas, which manifested between the second and fourth decade of life. (2011) analyzed 14 families from the Netherlands with genetically-confirmed HLRCC. There was significant intrafamilial variability. Four patients had isolated type 2 papillary renal cell carcinoma, indicating that this can be a sole manifestation of the disorder. Twenty (74.1%) of 27 patient died of metastatic renal cell carcinoma. The average age at diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma was 43 years (range, 28 to 70 years). Uterine leiomyomas occurred in 32 families and in 76 (81.7%) of 93 female affected members renal tumors occurred in 15 (34%) families and in 27 (17.9%) of 151 affected members. Cutaneous leiomyomas occurred in 37 (84.1%) of 44 families and in 102 (67.5%) of 151 affected members. (2011) identified 44 families with genetically-confirmed HLRCC. They suggested that this was part of the phenotypic spectrum of HLRCC.Īs part of the French National Cancer Institute study, Gardie et al. (2006) identified a Leydig cell tumor of the testis. In a 55-year-old man with HLRCC and an N64T mutation in the FH gene (136850.0004), Carvajal-Carmona et al. A second, smaller family was also studied. All these kidney cancers displayed a distinct papillary histology and presented as unilateral solitary lesions that had metastasized at the time of diagnosis. The 4 kidney cancer cases occurred in young (33- to 48-year-old) females and displayed a unique natural history. Seven individuals had a history of cutaneous nodules, 2 of which were confirmed to be cutaneous leiomyomatosis. In the Finnish family they studied, 11 members had uterine leiomyomas and 2 had uterine leiomyosarcoma. (2001) reported the clinical, histopathologic, and molecular features of a cancer syndrome with predisposition to uterine leiomyomas and papillary renal cell carcinoma. (1987) described a nonfamilial case of associated multiple cutaneous leiomyomas and uterine fibromas. Engelke and Christophers (1979) commented on the unusually early age of onset of uterine myofibromas. (1973) also emphasized the association of uterine myomata. Mezzadra (1965) described 3 generations of an Italian family with cutaneous leiomyomata associated with uterine myomata. (1964) described identical twins with multiple cutaneous leiomyomata and a history of hysterectomy for uterine leiomyomata. The skin tumors were composed of smooth muscle fibers and were thought to arise from the erector pilorum muscles. The parents and common grandparent were not known to be affected, but all critical individuals were not examined. (1958) described 3 Italian half first cousins with multiple leiomyomata of the skin. The main focus of management in HLRCC is prevention of disease and death due to renal cancer (summary by Gardie et al., 2011 Smit et al., 2011 and Lehtonen, 2011).įor a general discussion of papillary renal cell carcinoma, see RCCP1 (605074). Some patients with FH mutations may develop collecting duct renal cell carcinoma. Type 2 papillary renal cell carcinoma is a pathologic subtype characterized by large tumor cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm and pseudostratified nuclei it shows an aggressive clinical course. Hereditary leiomyomatosis and renal cell cancer is an autosomal dominant tumor predisposition syndrome characterized by the variable development of 3 tumors: cutaneous piloleiomyomata that develop in essentially all patients by age 40 years leiomyomata (fibroids) of the uterus, and rarely leiomyosarcomas, at a mean age of 30 years (range, 18 to 52 years) and type 2 papillary renal cell carcinoma at a mean age of 46 years (range, 17 to 75 years), which occurs in about 20% of patients. Homozygous mutation in the FH gene causes fumarase deficiency (FMRD 606812). LEIOMYOMATOSIS AND RENAL CELL CANCER, HEREDITARY LRCCĪ number sign (#) is used with this entry because multiple cutaneous and uterine leiomyomatosis with or without renal cell carcinoma, also referred to as hereditary leiomyomatosis and renal cell cancer (HLRCC), is caused by heterozygous mutation in the gene encoding fumarate hydratase (FH 136850) on chromosome 1q43. Christina Lonsdale, a Portland-based artist, explains it like this: “The camera uses hand sensors that pick up this energy field and a proprietary algorithm matches this energy to a color.” To put it simply, aura photography shows the auric field of a person. And the colors to the left represent their weeks to come. The colors over the head and torso represent their current emotional state. In 2024, Bradley was visited at his house by Barnes and Sam Wilson, who asked for his assistance as they wished to find out how the Super Soldier Serum had been recreated once more. The location of Bradley's residence was eventually discovered by Bucky Barnes, although Barnes chose not to tell anyone about it, choosing to respect Bradley's desire to stay hidden. Well, maybe it does for folks like you." ―Isaiah Bradley to Bucky Barnes "You think you can wake up one day and decide who you wanna be? It doesn't work like that. Sometime during Bradley's thirty year incarceration, Faith passed away. Instead, they decided to inform Faith that Bradley had been killed in action. In one of these letters, she included a photo of their newborn son, although Bradley was not made privy to this information as the military did not pass on her letters to him. Faith, who had been pregnant with Bradley's child, had sent him letters as well, believing he was still fighting in Korea. While incarcerated, he wrote letters to his wife Faith Bradley, although his captors did not send them to her. During that time, scientists, including members of the CIA and HYDRA, experimented and took his blood, trying to replicate the version of the Super Soldier Serum he had been given. As a result, Bradley was put in prison for thirty years. "For the next thirty years, they experimented on me, trying to figure out why the serum worked." ―Isaiah Bradley to Sam Wilson ĭespite his service to the United States of America in the Korean War, Bradley was punished for disobeying orders and saving his fellow super soldiers. However, the soldiers whom he had saved quickly died, having succumbed to the side effects of the imperfect serum given to them. Wishing to save his friends, Bradley single-handedly infiltrated and liberated the camp, freeing his fellow super soldiers and returning them to their base. Realizing that their unethical experiments on African-American men could come to light, the United States Armed Forces decided to destroy the POW camp with an air strike to eliminate the super soldiers and hide the evidence. No longer able to perform their combat duties adequately, they were quickly captured by enemy forces and placed in a POW camp. So I bust out of the facility one night and I brought them boys back." ―Isaiah Bradley to Sam Wilson īradley's fellow soldiers, who had received the imperfect variants of the Super Soldier Serum, found themselves becoming unstable and dying. I heard the brass talkin' about blowing the POW camp to hell to hide the evidence. "A couple of the boys get captured on a mission. In 2024, when Sam Wilson became the new Captain America, Bradley's heroics were memorialized at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. In the 1980s, he was freed and was relocated to Baltimore after his death was faked, during which he raised a grandson. After the government feared the ramifications of an African-American super soldier, he spent three decades in prison experimented on by the U.S. A survivor of the trials, he was assigned by the United States military to eliminate Winter Soldier in South Korea, although he failed. Isaiah Bradley is a Korean War veteran who was unwillingly subjected to human testings of the Super Soldier Serum in the 1950s. And even if they did, no self-respecting black man would ever wanna be." ―Isaiah Bradley to Sam Wilson They will never let a black man be Captain America. While our IUSA visitors were being introduced to many different processes, no-one showed signs of information overload – after another glass of wine, most people went out into that chill February night having been truly welcomed by the Studio artists, with images abounding in their heads, and a promise to return. Jean Bardon showed gold leaf application, Ger Cox, Jenny Lane demonstrated wood block printing, Ruth O‘Donnell explained the sugar lift etching technique, Aisling Dolan showed her photo etchings, Mick Timmins showed and explained lithography, Stephen Lawlor his multi – plate printing, Pamela Leonard showed the initial stages of drawing on a “smoked” copper plate, Dermot Ryan printed, Gráinne Cuffe showed drawings, and large etchings. The 35 or so visitors were invited to look at the Sponsors Portfolios, Studio artists’ work, and Visiting artists work with Robert Russell, Studio Director, and Catherine O’Riordan, Graphic Studio Gallery Manager. Having been placed in a historical context by Dr.Angela Griffith, the Studio was then open for viewing, with 11 printmakers present, showing and explaining their techniques, and talking about their work.
